The Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences in the Waters College of Health Professions invites applications and nominations for the position of Lecturer and Director of Clinical Education. The home campus for this position will be the Armstrong campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. Within this setting, the Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences houses 18 full-time faculty and staff serving nine programs within the Radiologic Science, Respiratory Therapy, and Medical Laboratory Science degrees. The Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences, as part of the Waters College of Health Professions at Georgia Southern University-Armstrong campus, exists to educate students and to provide our culturally diverse communities with competent, team-oriented, and compassionate healthcare professionals. The Respiratory Therapy program uses a scientific approach to problem-solving and critical thinking to educate students able to contribute to the growth and development of the respiratory therapy field. This position will enhance the creative integration of technology within current and future course offerings. The Director of Clinical Education will provide effective leadership in developing and conducting ongoing assessment of the clinical education program.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Lecturer and Director of Clinical Education requires teaching in an online classroom and laboratory setting, service, and professional development responsibilities. The position is a 12-month, non-tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned master's degree (or higher) in respiratory care, health sciences, public health, education, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2021.

  • Respiratory Therapy degree from an institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current state license.

  • A minimum of four years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two years in clinical respiratory care.

  • A minimum of two years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor / preceptor for students of such programs.

  • Completed the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program by August 1, 2021.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification.

  • AARC membership.

  • Experience in interprofessional activities.

  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.

  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with CoARC accreditation guidelines, standards, annual report, and self-study.

  • Experience in inter-rater reliability assessments.

  • Experience in university or college level committees

  • Experience in curriculum development.

  • Current Adult Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Instructor for American Heart Association in BLS, ACLS, or PALS.

  • Experience teaching critical care and mechanical ventilation.

  • Online teaching certification (Quality Matters or closely related).

  • Active in national or state associations.
